Brotherhood, composed of the men at Temple Judea, extends a warm welcome to all of the community. Its members, being leaders in the Jewish community, value the meaning of "brotherhood," accepting an obligation to serve the congregation as well as the community.

Brotherhood's activities combine exciting sports events and casino visits with fundraising.

Its members assist the Sisterhood with any needs and together they provide the environment for the melding of men and women members into one Jewish family.

Donate Your Old Car
As most of you know, the sale of cars donated to Temple Judea has been the source of much needed income to our Temple. I put out a request for help in this project and lo and behold, a member of our Brotherhood, Norman Kingston has volunteered to aid me in this endeavor. Thank you Norman! Norman can be reached either through the Temple office or at his home number 679-2216. If you know of a car that needs a new home call either Norman or myself at 588-9864.

Brotherhood Breakfast Meeting
Wednesday July 2nd at 9:00 a.m., our Guest Speaker will be Rami Lazarescu, former Israeli Navy Electronics Warfare Technician. Currently President of Ampro Group. The winner of the 2000 Excellence Award bestowed by President Clinton. Speaking on the topic: "Life is Short, Live your Dreams." Breakfast menu includes bagels & cream cheese, sweet buns, coffee and tea.

 
Let's Have a Show!
Sy Wellikson has written a parody of “South Pacific” entitled “South Pacific...It’s Not!”  It will feature all of the melodies of the original musical with lyrics pertinent to Temple Judea activities.  There will be no acting, no memorization, and limited rehearsals.  We are seeking vocalists to fill the roles for men’s and women’s solos, duets, and groups.  Tapes of background music will be provided to participants.  The show will be presented and staged in the Fall-probably in November.

Incidentally, Sy has written, directed, and performed for Laguna Woods Village organizations, such as the Theatre Guild and the Nifty Club and has performed in productions at Saddleback College.

  
Create a Booklet for Your Family
This is the response to an autobiographical booklet called “Experience is the Best Teacher”. The booklet was written by member, Rudy Schindler and is now in the library of the Temple.

Dear Grandpa,
Thank you for thinking of me on my birthday this year and every year. I also want to thank you for writing me your book about your life and your wisdom. I have gotten through most of it and I would love to talk to you about it when I see you on Thanksgiving. Also I will write you when I finish reading it to tell you what I think and ask you any questions I might have. I love reading about our family’s history. It makes me feel more connected to my roots. And reading about you being a young man has given me a good perspective on my life.

Our Daily Minyan
Perhaps the one activity at Temple Judea that never takes a vacation is the Minyan. Twice a week, the faithful gather in Smotrich Chapel to maintain the century-old tradition of public worship. More often than not, the core group is joined by those who, in grief, come to praise the Almighty by means of the Mourners Kaddish. Please consider joining us for morning services. Monday and Thursday at 8:30am.
 

Gold Rush
Several of our members have taken advantage of the Temple Judea Brotherhood’s Gold Rush brokerage service. The Brotherhood gold rush chairman will weigh and appraise your gold and get you the highest price by getting it refined. The charge is 10% value or a minimum of $25. This covers weighing, testing, and transportation to the refiner. One member received over $1700, another $345, and another $100. Check over your unused and unwanted valuables and let us turn them into cash for you and the Temple. Call Rudy Schindler, chairman of the gold rush committee 551-1161 and he will be pleased to meet with you for an appraisal at your mutual convenience.
